Take a Walk With Me is an ongoing documentary and community-centered project that explores healing, memory, and survival through the stories of gun violence survivors. Beginning with Spencer’s experience surviving the 2019 shooting outside of the AUC Woodruff Library, the project creates intentional spaces for survivors across the DelMarVa region to share their experiences through conversation, movement, and trust-building. Each encounter begins with moving through the space together—allowing participants to share at a pace that feels comfortable while choosing what, if anything, they wish to share. Silence, pauses, and fragments of memory are honored just as much as spoken testimony, with consent and participant agency remaining central throughout the process.
Through intimate documentation and collective reflection, Take a Walk With Me asks viewers to confront the realities of gun violence and the ways it shapes both individual and communal life in the United States. The project resists spectacle in favor of care, emphasizing that healing is not a solitary process, but a relational one. By centering survivor voices and lived experience, the work becomes both an archive of resilience and a call toward collective responsibility, remembrance, and change.
